Seeds of Tolerance

"Don't make assumptions...make a video." Enter Current's Seeds of Tolerance contest. Submit a video with a theme of tolerance by August 15th for your chance to win $100,000 plus $15,000 for a relevant charity. Don't know how to get started? Current even provides some story ideas to help you get started.

Faith and Reason

Leave it to Bill Moyers. He's back with a new series on PBS, Faith and Reason. Click on the link in the right sidebar, "Bill Moyers on the series" to get an idea of the tone. I love that he's not interviewing the Jerry Falwells and Pat Robertsons of the world for this series--he's talking to writers. I missed the first episode with Salman Rushdie--did any of you catch it? I look forward to hearing what these "novelists, essayists and poets" have to say on this very important subject.

casino author readings

Am I the last to know that some authors have taken up giving readings in casinos?! I suppose it makes sense, in a perverse sort of way. I'm all for anything that encourages people to read and buy books...I think...

mannequins

When will the mannequin industry start making models that look like real women?

"Still, most of the world fits a plus size, and we couldn't help but notice that the presence of a plus-size mannequin was notably absent at the Roostein 50th anniversary party—just like it is in most shop windows."

Amy Sedaris

And on NPR...including her cupcake recipe.

House of Boateng

Did anyone catch the first episode of "House of Boateng" on Sundance Channel? I haven't had a crush in awhile, but I just told J. that Ozwald Boateng is my new one. He is fine. And he designs some bad-ass men's clothes. Throw in a gorgeous wife and beautiful kids. Quite the life. Now all he wants to do is conquer America (beyond the celebrities he already dresses).

Brit

Good lord, has it been another week already?? I really am slacking. Oh, wait...no, I'm not...I've just been BUSY. (What a concept.) Let's see what I can find amidst the glazed this morning...

People! How did you not tell me about this Britney interview?! (Good lord, I MUST be busy.) She's...she's...is that really her?...or a tranny doing her? The dime-store fake eyelashes...the boobs...the gum-chewing...the... (sigh) It just doesn't get any better than this.

In other news, the Marin County Fair strikes it big in the Free Act Championship...

Promise to be a more frequent poster here once I'm done with work...just a few more days...
